Isle of Wight Radio's New Retro Station: A Nostalgic Journey Through Time
The Isle of Wight's beloved radio station, IW Radio, has recently unveiled its newest venture, Isle of Wight Radio Retro, a DAB-broadcasting, online-streaming, and smart-speaker-compatible sister station. This new platform is a nostalgic trip down memory lane, featuring classic hits from the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, alongside a lineup of familiar local voices.
At the heart of this venture is the return of popular broadcaster Alex Dyke, who will be hosting his much-loved Bubblegum and Cheese show every Saturday and Sunday from 10 am. Dyke's connection to the station is a significant draw for listeners, as he last worked at IW Radio 18 years ago. Since then, he's been a familiar face on BBC regional and network programs, as well as television shows like BBC South Today, TalkTV, and GB News. His recent endeavors have included touring with Fred Dinenage in a theater show dedicated to the Krays and promoting live music shows at Shanklin Theatre.
Dyke's enthusiasm for the Island is evident, as he expresses his passion for the area, having invested in a glamping/camping site called Retro Staycations. He's clearly excited to bring back the good times with Bubblegum and Cheese on the new Retro service, stating, 'I’m so passionate about the Island. The station's launch on April 20th marks a new chapter for IW Radio, as it brings 'classic sounds and familiar voices back across the Island.' The station's lineup also includes Jenni Costello hosting the weekday breakfast show, Nick Osborne presenting the Drive Home slot, including his 'Dinnertime Disco,' and late-night programming with The Nightshift, specializing in soul and funk. Weekend shows will feature Andy Knight hosting mornings and Mark Dodson presenting The Rewind on Sunday evenings.
